I have been trying my very best to become a die-hard
political partisan just like most other folks so that I can support one of the
political parties wholeheartedly. I
really want to become a cheerleader for the party that helps pull us back from
the brink of pending financial disaster, which is bound to happen as our debt
is now exceeding GDP by more than 100%.
Both parties are now so much alike that I cannot yet pick one over the
other – both are so hell-bent on taxing and spending, and taxing and spending.
For example, earlier this year in January, the US House of
Representative, which is held by a majority of Republicans, passed the Senate
amended House bill HR 8 bill to avoid the “fiscal cliff, with 172 democrats and
85 republicans voting “yes”. One hundred and fifty republicans voting “no”. How can that happen in the House if it is
controlled by the conservatives?
Historically, the Hastert Rule has said that a bill should
not be brought to a vote if not approved by the majority of the party
controlling the house – otherwise the house is nonsensically snubbing the
majority of the nation’s voters who cast their vote to control the house.
Well, the truth is that only 1 hour and 18
minutes before the “fiscal cliff” vote, all the Republicans except 2 voted
“yes” on HR 844, breaking the Hastert Rule and allowing HR 8 to come to the
floor for vote. Most of them (151) then
turned and voted “no”. If they had voted
“No” on HR488 in the first place, it would have prevented the bill from coming
to the floor. They knew full well in advance that the Democrats were primed to
vote “yes” and thereby win.
So, I have concluded for now that a Democrat will at least
lie honestly to my face, which makes them almost likable. A republican, on the other hand, will
duplicitously deceive you as shown so clearly in their “bait and switch”
routine last January. If I am really
forced to choose, I guess my nod will go to the Republicans – I suppose its
because they think that I am smart enough to know the difference, so they have
to lie to me behind my back – it’s kind of flattering - I think?
